I have been asked to make a cake like the one below.  I am not sure what was used around the outside of the cake.  It looks like chocolate shavings on the cake itself but I am not sure what was used all around the border.  It looks like sticks.  Any suggestions?

They look like real sticks to me.  If you want something edible...you can use pirouettes.

Yep those look like real sticks to me, and moss and some yummy silk cat tails jammed into it.

I would assume they made a cake stand with the sticks and then put the cake on it and covered the board with moss and chocolate shavings.

The only thing I would suggest is to steer clear of the silk plants and make some from gumpaste, those things are dusty and dirty.

Thank you to you both.  I thought they looked like sticks also. I may just use sticks and use a bigger board.  Thanks for the information.

Does anyone know where I can buy this type of cattails?  I have looked online and have not found any that look like this.

Thanks.

Have you tried Hobby Lobby?  They have beautiful silks....maybe even Michaels.
