My grandson wants a police car cake and since I've never done cakes before I am not sure how to do this.
I have a cake mold for a car and thought I would fill it with rkt to form the car instead of cake. My daughter ordered a cake from Costco and I was wondering if I can put the completed rkt police car on top of the buttercream or will I have a disaster? Will it sink into the cake?
You can do a few things:
Put your car onto a rectangular board decorated to look like a piece of road. This only needs to be an inch bigger all around than the car. I have put 6" cakes onto 12" tiers without any dowels or problems, by using stiff board underneath.
OR--Buy some dowels or large drinking straws, and use them under the wheels of your RKT car. Use the car to lightly mark the proper places. If there is sagging within the first few minutes, add a board under the wheels and over the dowels.
Both ways, it helps to keep your base cake well chilled, and to add the car shortly before serving.
