I just sent a cake out the door and realized I forgot to put dowels in it!! It's a 2 tier square 8 & 6 inch covered in fondant! I'm a nervous wreak now! Do I call them and tell them or do I wait and see? It was for my old next door neighbor who I group up calling my other mom but she can be a hugeee drama queen at times. I can't believe I forgot to put dowels in! I never do that.
Considering that it's fairly cold, it might hold together ok. Was the cake cold?
How did you even do that? Did you stack it up intending to leave it there only briefly to see how it was going to look after you doweled it?
i can feel our collective blood pressure going high going high bursting off the chart....cahhn't breathe...
was it a nice short angel food lightweight six inch cake????
for the drama queen?? good going
jump in the car or the subway or whatever and go track the cake down and dowel it
<get me my meds> ;)
its a yellow cake (both tiers) Toba Garretts recipe. I don't even know how I managed that. I was rushing to get the order done because the customer was late with her payment but since it was my old neighbor I decided not to turn her away. I remember sitting the top tier on top of the bottom to see if I wanted then lined perfect or offset. Omg! It was cold but its still going to sit out at the party. I even center doweled it so I don't see how I could forget the bottom tiers dowels smh.
I bet it will be just fine, bet you anything. Especially if sits still and no one moves it around. Honestly, I don't even think I need to support 4" tiers sometimes, but how stupid would I look if something happened...lol.
then you have a good excuse! it's her fault
go go go
one medic for the cake... you!
and one for me & AZC with a lotta pills
why do i keep fanning myself when i read this post
lmaooo cause I have a feeling we both know things are about to "blow up". Guess I'll have to wait until this evening to give you all a report.
I will keep my fingers crossed that nothing will happen to the cake!!! I know you will be on pins and needles waiting for a phone call. Hopefully, you will only receive a phone call telling you how good the cake was!!! Holding my breath!!!!!Good luck/MARY
AIt should be fine, don't worry about it. If it was four tiers that's one thing but for two no biggie.
Seriously, that size & 2 tiers should be fine.
I know people will be shocked, but I often don't dowel a 2 tier. I just posted one today that I didn't http://cakecentral.com/g/i/2898428/a/3289760/this-cake-was-created-for-an-auction-to-benefit-the-summerville-sc-youthdreams-community-the-theme-was-just-desserts-the-music-in-me-the-piano-tier-was-created-using-cut-strips-of-black-white-fondant-the-playbills-were-made-from-edible/
forget the pills get me an i.v.!!!!
Speaking of drama queens, y'all... you're going to give this poor woman an unnecessary heart attack - hahaha! I've done several 6" & 8" two-tiers without doweling them and nothing has happened. They were for family functions, so I was around to see what went on, and what went on was...nothing. They stayed together just fine. My only disaster in this area was a one-tier that simply decided to fall apart on its way to the festivities - still don't know why. It was also for a family function and everyone was very understanding (and hungry, too, probably), so it all got eaten anyway. Take a chill pill, everybody - it's going to be all right!
SOOO the cake survived the whole party! Wooowhoo! Sorry I didn't post last night I was sleeping all day then went to my night job (cna). Ill be sure to move the dowels closer to the work table the next time I go back to the kitchen lol. Thanks everyone!
Congrats! Glad to hear everything turned out okay!
Whew!!! Glad to hear everything is fine!!!
If the cake is dense/firm enough, it will be fine. Like DeliciousDesserts, I also sometimes skip doweling smaller 2 tiers.
Oops, I just saw your post saying that it survived.. YAY!
So now I want to know what happened. Please post the outcome.
AIt's going to be ok I did it quite a number of times however as mentioned don't attempt this with 3 tiers and over :)
She did post the outcome, it is post #16.
the point, my friend, is that i can't even grow things to use that are not taxed

i just thought it was bizarre/surreal
