ADoes anyone have any advice of how to make a lantern cake? Or as a topper? What would work for the glass ball in the center? Any ideas, links, tutorials would be great! Thanks very much!

i mean you could blow a globe out of cooked sugar--you could put a real light in it briefly or a candle briefly

but be careful because sugar's real ticky and could melt or catch fire even

you could make it in two halves in a mold with chocolate--it would be opaque

you could just ice some sculpted cakes

you could mold some rice krispie treats and cover that with fondant

all of the above techniques i'm sure are on you tube in some way or another

AUse isomalt to make a clear center. I made a Grey Goose bottle that way and it worked great. It was sturdy and I think would hold up to a small light inside.

Thank you!  I was getting stuck on that part and now have a lot of ideas to think through!  Thanks again for the advice! :)

If you go with the isomalt "glass" I'd avoid the real candle and go with one of those LED candles they sell at Michaels.
