Hi all- I have a cake that I have to have done tomorrow- i made a gumpaste rose which is drying, it's lavender and a drop of water got on it.  It's a dark water stain. I tried wiping it with a dry paintbrush, and I tried putting cornstarch on it, but ti's not going away.  This is actually the 2nd bow, the first one i tried to paint the entire thing with water to cover up some wet paint brush marks and let it sit there for 6+ hrs and the stains never got better.  Any one know what I mean or have any suggestions?  I just don't have time to make a new one.  Thanks!

AYou might try dabbing with a little vodka or lemon extract and then corn starch? Not sure if it will help or not. You could also make a dab of paste using vodka or lemon extract and petal dust to match the color of the rose and dab that on. Just throwing out ideas I might try in your same situation. HTH!

I love the petal dust idea!  I dont think i have lavender, but I could try something shimmery like silver and that might work.  I'm going to try the vodka-then cornstarch method on a sample piece to see if that works.  Great ideas, thank you JuliShulze!

Is this too late for you? If you haven't already, try steaming it over a pot of boiling water. Just for a minute or so and keep moving it around so it steams evenly. I had a steamer spew water droplets all over a bouquet of gumpaste flowers and ribbons last year. At the time, I ended up brushing a bit of water all over the pieces and it helped somewhat. Something I learned later that would have been even better...vodka mixed with corn syrup will get rid of your water stain but it will also make your piece a bit glossy.

I just want to follow up.  The vodka trick didn't work, but the luster dust did.  Then this cute little bow got all the way to the party, and when I went to put the cake on the pedestal it fell to the floor and broke into a million pieces LOL!!!!  It was ok tho, no one could tell 700
