I want to make a cake where one tier is a silver metallic color. I will be using buttercream, but I don't know how to create the look. The only way I know would be to use a spray silver spray, but that gives the frosting an "off" taste. Any ideas?

It's going to be near impossible to get metallic silver b'cream icing. You could paint it using silver dust mixed w/vodka's NOT edible icon_sad.gif Anytime gold or silver is used on a cake it should be on something that can be removed from the cake and not served. Yes, they are non-toxic but they are a heavy metal that over time will build up in one's organs and really be a problem for anyone who has health problems to begin with icon_sad.gif
It is very expensive to buy edible silver leaf and hard to use.

Ok, thanks. I guess I will just go with gray.

Do you have an airbrush? Lucks' silver shimmer spray looks decent on buttercream and you don't need to use a ton. Also 100% edible. But you need an airbrush.

I do have an airbrush, not really comfortable with it yet, but I might give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion!
