I love ganache cakes, it makes covering them so much easier. I was wondering if anyone has put a thin layer of ganache on then covered it in buttercream instead of fondant??

Yes, and yum! I have done this when I want the extra chocolate flavor (because, you know, chocolate) and also when the cake inside is a bit softer and the cake the stability to travel.
