Im a cake decorator of about 4 years, but have come to a hault with a cake. I have a request next week for a very close friend to do her wedding cake and after at least a month I am needing some advice and quick. The cake she wants is the tilted kind, not topsy turvy where you cut into the cake, but crooked where you cover I believe it would be something like foamcore with flowers so they are not visable. I am also traveling about 2 hours with it, but obviously will keep it all apart till I get there. I just can not seem to figure out exaclty how to do this. This link shows ***kind of*** what I mean.
I know I am no Ron Ben-Israel but I have seen many cakes to this effect. HELP, I am tearing my hair out!!!!
Neither link works for me -- Page not found. But there are plenty of threads about using wedges of styrofoam (not foam core boards), if you search with the keyword "wedge" or similar.
Be sure you assemble it to make sure the angles are correct, then disassemble for delivery.
There's a video tutorial on www.craftsy.com called Topsy Turvy Cake Construction with Richard Ruskell. You have to pay, but not nearly as much as you would for a class and once purchased, it's yours to keep and watch over as many times as you like. You can even ask questions.
Even though it's called topsy turvy, it is done with the foam in-between the layers. He even talks about transporting the cake.
