Does anyone have a template or tutorial to how to pipe a 3-D parasol? Here is a link to a picture of what I had in mind. http://www.flickr.com/photos/30847828@N06/4733026723/in/set-72157629138405911

Um....

make egg white royal icing on the soft side (not all the sugar)

find a sphere of the size you need (a balloon is OK)

grease sphere lightly with vegetable shortening

pipe parasol of your choice

dry

remove substrate (let air out of balloon, DO NOT pop it)

Thank you. The balloon is a great idea!

I'd use something solid, sturdy, and stable that you can steady similar to a ball pan.
