So, i've been trying to make gumpaste anemones but even though i try to glue the wires inside the petals they seem to never stick. They twist inside the petal, they're loose! So when i try to assemble the flower, they either fall off the wire or twist and turn sideways! What do I do? It's the first time i try wiring flowers...
I'm no expert but I have done a few wired flowers. First of all, are you using a cell board or are you leaving a little thickness in the middle of the petal in order to insert the wire. Are you letting the petals dry completely before trying to assemble.
Sounds like you're using plain floral wire. Wrap them with floral tape first.
manddi is right...they need to be wrapped. also, are you using some gumpaste glue and letting them dry? you can just put a small amount of water in a small cup/glass and then put some gumpaste in it and let it dissolve some.
You might want to try the "twiddling" method of wiring. Take a small piece of fresh gum paste and work it down the end of the wire, twisting it 'tween the fingers. Lay that against the back of the freshly cut petal and press with the veiner or a small piece of foam. Taper the gumpaste around the bottom of the petal and wire, thin the edges, arrange in the former, let dry. Hopefully this alternate method will help you to more successfully wire your flowers.
Use cloth covered wires and dip them into a little bit of water then squeeze the extra water off of the tip of the cloth covered wire before putting the petal on it. And the other poster is right, roll out your paste so that it's just a little thicker at the bottom, where you'll be inserting the wire.
