what's the best cake to use for a fondant birthday cake.. My fondant seems to always sink, I never get great edges... Help.... icon_biggrin.gif

Are you using a dense or pound cake? Have you tried using ganache 2:1 ratio under your fondant? That is the best way to prevent sagging fondant edges. I also use a crusting BC but ganache works best.

you may be applying too much bc under your fondant. you only need to do like a crumb coat under the fondant and it should help. but i know a lot of people say that ganache is great because then you are putting it almost directly onto the cake and get that nice edge

Pound cake is a type of cake. But the type of cake should have nothing to do with this issue. Try a thinner crumb coat. Remember it is just a crumb coat it should not have a heaping amounts of frosting on it.
