Hi. I have a question about cake dummies... My daughter is having a birthday at the end of Sept. and I'm making cupcakes to display on a cupcake tree. The very top of the tree is supposed to be have a zebra striped cake. I wanted to use a dummy cake. What's the best way to do this? Should I cover it in fondant and use fondant stripes or would the wilton edible sheets work well on fondant? How far in advance can I make it? you see... I've never done zebra stripes and I'd like to start practicing early but if it turns out good...I'd like to keep it. How long will it last for?

The pre-printed sheets can dry & curl if on a cake for awhile.

I'd do it in fondant and just apply fondant zebra stripes cut from black. That could be done weeks in advance as long as the cake is kept in a cool place out of direct heat & light and NOT in an airtight container.
