I have had a request for a three tier wedding cake for 160 guests. I'm thinking prob 14,12 and 10 inch tiers. Anyone have a photo of a cake this size. I usually finish with a much smaller top tier. I'm worried the cake might look too wide and not tall enough if you know what I mean. But the bride is adamant she only wants three tiers. Any pics or suggestions would be great. Thanks!!

If she's saving the top tier, that's only 134 servings (or 172 total).

I agree, a 10" top tier is way too big.
I'd suggest either a 16" x 12" x 8" for 156/180 servings,
or a 14" square x 10" x 8" for exactly 160 servings (if the top tier is served).

Sorry should have said, they're not planning on keeping top tier. Serving it all.
Thanks for the suggestion. Any others or pics???

This cake by MissRobin starts with the 14 inch cake and goes up from there. Hold your hand over the top tiers and you will see what it would look like. I think it would be quite an awkward top tier http://cakecentral.com/gallery/1248924/andreas-wedding

I think it would be horrible! If I saw a cake in those proportions I wold wonder where the top 2 tiers were.

I did one that size.... it will look fine with the right topper (at least 6" across). The original design was not mine, but the dimensions of this are 10-12-14"

I agree with the right topper it can be ok!

I always liked the look of this cake and it appears that it could be close to the sizes you are wanting to do. But I also agree that the right topper would help the look.

Okay, I take it back! It can look nice, but yes, it has to have the right topper! Both cakes posted look really beautiful.

Thanks so much everyone. I think those pics show it can look good..... Now to convince the bride she needs a topper (which she didn't want!) eerrrrr!
Otherwise I might recommend smaller tiers and an extra cake to cut out the back!
Or just convince her to go for four tiers! Why do they make it hard for us sometimes!!

Wow good thing I didn't comment too soon. Would have said it would have looked like a cake overload but those two cake photos look great especially with those toppers!

A 14", a double 10", and a 6" would get you there at 166 servings. It is a specific look, though. Always looks like a skyscraper to me!

"Skyscraper cakes are growing on me...I used to hate them, then tolerate, and now I am liking them icon_surprised.gif

Mmm a skyscraper hey??!!
Now where would I find a pic of one of these?? I just googled it but all I got was cakes that looked like buildings !! Lol! Aaahhhhh. This is doing my head in!

Those cakes are pretty, but they still look short and fat to me. If she's set on wanting a 3 tier, I would go with something a little smaller and do some kitchen cakes.
