Hi all,

A good friend of mine wants a castle cake topper for her wedding cake. I see that Caljava sells Styro Cake toppers, but i was wondering if anyone has used these before. Do they come preassembled? Is it possible to cover them in fondant, so they don't look like styro?

OR

Do you know of any good tutorials on how to make a topper from fondant/gumpaste (Covering something non edible as a base would be no problem).

I have attached the cake that she found for inspiration. We really like how this castle was done.

The wedding is at the end of August so I would like to start making the castle ASAP if possible.
Thanks!!!
LL

I just looked at your cake album. You totally have the skills to just build from scratch. I would use styrofoam to make the building part and then cover them in gumpaste. You can make the cone shaped roofs seperate and just let them dry and then paint them. They look like they are a blue color with a silver painted over the top.

That's a beautiful castle! Have you thought on making it out of pastillaje or gumpaste? Maybe someone can share a template...??

Good luck!

This is a 3-D castle chocolate mold:

You could add upside-down sugar cones for the pointy turrets.

Evidently you can buy one:

It might be the one in your picture.

They look a little bumpy, like "stone." Could they be RKT covered with fondant?

The castle shown is made of white chocolate, but they do not show the mold, nor do they say anything on the blog about where to get it. Being it's a "Disney" I cannot find a mold for this castle. Anyone know where to get one? This is exactly what I am looking for...sighhhh

poey, from the blog it appears that it is available to purchase alone. (without the cake, lol) From this blog IMO they do not want to sell a mold but the finished product of the chocolate castle.  And also there is no list price.  But there is a telephone number and I'm sure we will all be asking their price.  @cinori, since you have the time, I would recommend you make the top.  It will be a lasting treasure for your friend and it can be made it advance and stored until you need it.  The stairs to me look like they are either rkt or fondant/gumpaste so they can be molded to fit the side of the cake.  The design was created probably using a rolling pin with a brick design to imprint on the fondant, as well as the board on the bottom.  HTH

Hi everyone...I have searched and searched for a suitable castle. Or one that was inexpensive enough for me to make a mold from. I have found one but I won't know if I can mold it until it comes in. I would really like to make one from chocolate or packed sugar. Here is the link if you want to search it..http://www.efavormart.com/fairytalecastle8.aspx

I bought those several years back, but I just used as is.  I would paint the turrets the color to match about all.

Maybe off topic a bit (and late), but does anyone know how long a RKT cake topper will last?  I have a cake due on June 9 & I have some free time now. I want to use that free time to make the topper but I'm not sure how long it will last... Any thoughts??

They last like forever.  but... they do get old and stale.  It will be good if its just for the topper and nobody really going to eat it.  Keep it in an airtight container after it is completely done, dry and hard.  Will be good til then.
