I'm making a tractor cake tonight/tomorrow, and want to make hay bales out of the cake I carve off. What is the best way to make it look like a hay bale? I was thinking of using my extruder, but that seems like it will take a while. Would the grass tip work?

Hello, I just made a cow cake for a friend and made the hay out of large shredded wheat and tied it up. Take a look at my pic in my gallery. I really liked how this turned out. Hope this idea helps and it takes no time to do it. The box of cereal was around $4! Have a nice day. Joni

I made some hay bales back some months ago by rolling out some straw colored fondant really thin, letting it air dry over night and then cutting it in very thin strips that looked like straw. I then applied them to RKT covered in butter cream. I don't see why you could not do the same with rectangles of cake. HTH

I've made hay bales from cake...covered in b/cream using the 'grass' tip - # 233.

I made a large hay bale last year and used 4 shades of gold/yellow buttercream and a combination of the grass tip and tips 2 and 3 and even a small star tip (maybe 14, but I'm not positive).
