I have attached a picture of a wedding cake that someone is wanting me to make and the frosting looks like it has a sheen to it. I actually set up a groom's cake a few years back and saw a wedding cake made with a shiny buttercream frosting. I asked the decorator about it and she refused to share her recipe or tips. She said she had a secret for making her frosting look that way. I love the look of this frosting and would like to try some recipes for it. I use the Wilton Buttercream Frosting on a regular basis.

Sorry, no recipe is going to make buttercream shiny.

What people use is edible spray with a pearl finish.

Yeah, what she ^^^^ said.
Hot knifing the icing smooth will help just a bit but in the long run it's best to use spray or dust .

Swiss or Italian buttercream is shiny.

This isn't shiny...it's pearlized. Airbrush or buy the spray can.

I agree it is pearlized spray, but swiss and italian are shiny compared to regular buttercream

Thanks so much!! I will look for the spray! I am not familiar with Swiss or Italian buttercream. I am interested in learning more about those. Any tips or suggestions?
