Eeek. This always happens. I was first going to use mmf, then realized that it's just too soft. Don't even have tylose to help it. Then figured I could get duff's since it's supposed to taste good - and just did some reading about how that fondant stinks for flowers (too soft). So forget the taste, just tell me what to buy that will make simple cut-out flowers that I can curl up?? And that will dry in time for a Sat cake.
Or should I just go buy bags of the premade wilton gumpaste??
No wonder my figure is leaning backwards - I used gumpaste and mmf!! I guess I'm a slow learner!
Wilton Fondant mixed with Wilton Gumtex (look up the amts for this here on CC)otherwise, mix Wilton premade gumpaste with Wilton fondant, 50-50 ratio! HTH.
Thank you - I might just buy a bag of the gum paste so as not to mess with mixing - I'm spending wayyy too much time on this and just need to get moving with it! (and coupons help - dh is coming with so we can use coupons on everything.)
I use only fondant for my cut out flowers.. and I have good result but if you want to do flower with same efects .. I recomend you to use gum paste ready to use mix fondant or gum paste only... too can add gum paste mix at your fondant...
I usually use leftover MMF mixed with the Wilton gumpaste. Don't usually have any problems with it. All the flowers in my gallery were done this way.
Well, I now have a box of wilton fondant, and another bag of gumpaste. And I just was checking some scraps leftover from the figure (from yesterday) that were made with mmf/gumpaste - and they're nice & firm already. Hmmmmmm..... that still tastes halfway decent. Now I'm not sure which I'll use. Maybe the wilton might be easier to work with?
You know, I had been picturing a sea of flowers with the figure standing in them, with "congratulations" etc in the center - and then I just watched one of Sharon Z's flower dvds and saw her sheet cake with just 3 flowers on it. More fondant work in a border stripe, but just 3 flowers. It looked so perfect and elegant. Now I'm second guessing my idea.
And any little hurdle is making me procrastinate in getting this done! Why am I doing this. I have a headache.... am tired.... that probably doesn't help. It's mainly the unknown though, I think. Fondant flowers are new to me and the way things usually go for me, there will be some sort of glitch.
I know this would be a whole thread in itself, but how could anyone possibly make money doing this? I don't charge at all - this is totally just a hobby. But I keep thinking about how long it still takes me to do things - if I were to add all my hours to ingredients, it would cost a fortune!
As I mentioned earlier in one of your several other posts regarding this issue...Wilton's pre-made gum paste is better for flowers because you can roll it very thin, it dries really hard in a very short time and it is much lighter in weight than fondant.
Mix some with fondant and it makes really nice figures.
Plus you can use the 40% off coupon you can get at Michaels or Hobby Lobby.
