Number Cake Troubles!! :x

Hi all i am DESPERATE for some advice on how to ice a number cake with sugarpaste. i have an order for a number 9 cake for wednesday evening drop off and im getting a tad worried now. ive had mutiple attempts but i just cant get my fondant around the bends and holes without it a) cracking b) having to patch it up beacause the icing doesnt go to the bottom of the cake and c) getting VERY frustrated now. PLEASE could someone shed some light on how this is done.

maybe try and make a border to cover some of the mistakes

i try to roll my fondant a bit thicker where the bends are, this allows for me to smooth it out without it breaking/splitting.

If you have to, use strips of fondant for those inside parts that are nearly impossible for me to do without the fondant tearing. Where the strips of fondant meet the top of the cake, place a string of fondant to outline the number.

Hopefully that makes sense. I've tried many times and many ways and haven't come up with anything else.
