AHow does the flower nail help? I haven't heard anything about backing with this

The flour nails, or Ateco makes a heating core that looks similar, conducts heat to the middle of the cake.  Which helps larger layers bake more evenly.  They have really made a difference in some of the cake recipes I use.  Some of them don't work well increasing to 10-12-14" layers, and the heating cores make them bake perfectly.
