Hi All,

I am making a wedding cake in a few days and I have a quick question about how to stack it. The bottom layer (14 inch) will be styrofoam and then the 12, 10, and 8 inch layers will be real cake. I was going to use the plastic plate and plastic hidden dowel rod method to stack. Do I need to put something (plastic dowel rods) in the styrofoam layer, or just the top three? Also, I am having trouble finding styrofoam rounds in 14 inches. Is it ok if I got to Home Depot or Lowe's and get some of their sheets of styrofoam and use that rather than floral/craft styrofoam?? Thanks very much!! icon_smile.gif

Supports aren't needed in the styrofoam dummy... you could stand on it and it wouldn't crush.

No, you can't use green floral foam, it's too soft. You should purchase dense styrofoam cake dummies that are made for this purpose, like these...
