Ok, so I am just getting started at making cakes my business. I just got in my most challenging order yet. I would hate to turn it down, but I just can not think of any ideas. They cake is for a casual rehearsal dinner for a couple. The grooms mother wants it to be a surprise for them. I love that. However she wants it to tell the story of how they met. He was a bank teller at the State employees credit union. She pretty much went in everyday to his window. One day they began chatting about golf and she said she would like to learn and he offered to teach her. She thought, Finally!!! She was running out of excuses to go to the bank everyday. I think that the story is very cute, but how in the world am I going to make that into a cake. The mother of the groom has given me free range as to shape of the cake and things. She has described her son and soon to be be daughter in law and said something about talk marks. But that is pretty much it. Help. I am plum out of ideas that would translate into a cute cake. If anyone has any suggestions, any at all. I would be very greatful.
What about making a cake with fondant or gumpaste figures on it? You could have them handing money from one to another. You could put the word "Finally" on the cake in fondant and put a golf ball on it?
Thanks for the ideas. I have thought about those things. I just wanted the cake to have some kind of flow. It would seem weird to have a random golf ball or bag on it the cake. I am not the proficient making fondant/gumpaste characters so I was hoping someone had a different idea. Thank you again for responding and your ideas. I do appreciate it.
What about a trail of money (cash, coins) and golf stuff (balls, clubs) leading up to a "Just Married" sign? You wouldn't have to make any figures and that stuff is easy to make.
How about out on a golf green (with the hole and the flag) with 2 figures. He is kneeling (like proposing) and handing her a deposit slip that has a heart on it. Its more like a wrap up than a progression, but might work.
Thank you. These are all great ideas and have helped my creative juices flowing. I'm thinking something like an old school comic strip with thought bubbles and then money and golf things in fondant around it. So it isn't really a 3D type cake except the accents. I'll post some pics when Ive finished. Thanks again for the ideas. Sometimes I get bakers block!
