Hello. I have a friend that wants me to make a computer laptop cake for her grandsons birthday. I am looking for suggestions on how to get the lid on the laptop to stand up on the cake. I am open to suggestions on the material to use to make the lid (rice crispy type or a wood board covered with fondant). I will make a sheet cake and put the laptop on top of it but I am stumped on how to get the lid to stay standing up. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

I would use 1 inch styrofoam it would be the lightest weight, then I would insert craft sticks, the longer ones like pop cycle sticks into the foam. Cover with fondant, and push the sticks into the cake. I would probably use them every few inches as it will get heavy with the fondant. You might want to try the fondant on the foam and see how smooth you can get it, you may find it necessary to coat the foarm with buttercream first.

Thanks Katie. I will give this a try tonight to see how well the fondant covers a foam board. I may wait until I get to the delviery site to put the screen on the cake if I think its too heavy and will fall during transport.
