Ok I agreed to do a cat in the Hat Hat cake for my daughter in laws baby shower it twins and the theme is Thing 1 Thing 2. I have not decorated in a long time and certainly not a tier cake since class over 6 years ago. What is the best way to stack and decorate this cake
Also how far in advance can I bake and decorate and still taste fresh?
. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

How about a simplified version of this cake?

If you're doing two tiers you can make the bottom tier blue, with the white dots and blue piping, and the top tier could be the cat in the hats hat, with red and white stripes, and you can make fondant/gumpaste/modelling choc figures of thing 1 and thing 2.

Also note the black "pen" lines on this cake, it really gives the feel of the cat in the hat drawings.
