So I want to make these beehive cupcakes:
But I hate making frosting thats puffy like this because it has Crisco in it right? Does anyone have a good recipe for frosting that I can use that will hold the way the frosting in the picture does? Any help you can give would be much appreciated! Thank you!
I just wanted to say that I make my butter cream on the stiff side when I pipe, and I HATE the taste of crisco. I haven't tried some of the recipes that fellow CCers rave about, so I am not sure if I hadn't just had a good crisco recipe? Aside from that I use an all butter recipe, and have gotten that texture to pipe cupcakes with before....
I just use the ratio 2:1 for butter and PS. So 1lb of butter to 2lbs of powdered sugar. I salt and flavor to taste. good luck!
Yeah I have done that recipe too and I like it but I can't seem to get it fluffy. It looks like in order to do these the frosting needs to be fluffy? I am almost to a point where I don't care because I probably won't eat anyway so if it doesn't taste all that good to me someone else may like it?
Use your icing recipe but don't stop after it has been mixed together. I let mine go on med speed for about 5 minutes so it really gets mixed together really well and it also gets fluffy. It is actually a great time to get those detail things together or done before icing your product. The same for mixing even for cakes, the icing looks more "together".

Yoiu could try using marshmellow fluff instead of frosting of rmixed into your frosting, it tastes nice and is definitely fluffy!
I've made them with both buttercream and with Fosting Pride (the imitation whip cream base) I liked both of them. Just a matter of taste for you and your customers.
