I have 2 questions I hope someone can answer for me. I am working on a wedding cake right now, I have 1 tier covered in chocolate fondant but when I was smoothing I didn't realize the smoother had a bit of icing on it I wiped it off but there is still a shiny spot is there a way to remove it?

My 2nd question is I am covering one of the tiers with fondant I had to adjust colour several times to get the right shade. The fondant seems like it is separating while I am kneading it before rolling it out. I am afraid it will result in "elephant skin" I did use shortening on my hands when I was adding the colour. Do I need to add more shortening or does it need something to dry it up a bit?
TIA

The one time I had fondant that was separating, I ended up tossing it. It REFUSED to co-operate no matter WHAT I did!
As for that shiny spot, can you just cover it with a flower or smething?
