I'm trying to adhere sugar gems to a fondant covered cake. I'm using royal icing, but after an hour of finishing getting all the gems on, some of them are popping off. Any suggestions?

perfect timing for this question...I have to attach sugar diamond studs to the inside of a gumpaste broach frame. I know we have to avoid moisture to keep the gems from melting, but how????
