I am going to be making a two tiered cake with some items sticking out of the top of the cake. What are your best tips for successfully doing this? I was thinking of making the items out of gumpaste and sticking skewers through the design before it starts to dry. Any tips are appreciated! Thanks!

Definitely depends on the design & what you're wanting to stick up. I'd use wire instead of a skewer bc the thin wire is less noticeable & the focus is still on the design. Wire can also be bent. Be sure to not insert the wire directly into the cake. You can put it in a coffee stir straw first so the cake doesn't touch the wire. Hth!
