I am planning on making the rainbow layer cake for my child's birthday. Not the tie dye, but the one with the distinct layers with icing between each... so 6 layers.
What would be the best icing to use for this? Would I use the same icing for the layers as for the outside icing?
I use buttercream dream and add what ever flavoring I want to it. but be sure to use high ratio shortening. if you use crisco or other store brands your shortening will tast gritty and really greasy.
Can i find hi ratio at a regular store? I have never used it.
Is there another icing that would also be good?
