I have always made my own fondant and had no problems with it, but lately I have had really bad results. It is not pliable enough and it is cracking and tearing when I place it on the cake! I got the recipie from here its T's marshmallow fondant. I wonder though if adding too much color made it this way. I made some hot pink , and another batch I made purple. Has any one else had this problem, or maybe I am just doing something wrong! icon_sad.gif

I have had that problem with dark colors like black or red. The recipe I use is 2 pounds powdered sugar, 16 ounces marshmallows, 4 tablespoon water, 1/4 cup shortening, 1 teaspoon clear vanilla and 5 to six drops Loranne candy oil. I like to use either cherry or strawberry. I let is sit for at least 8 hours at room temp before covering a cake.
