I want to make fondant flowers and have them on a wire of some sort sticking out of the top of cake. I have seen this on gallery pics but what kind of wire do you use that's food safe? I couldn't find anything when I looked at stores.

You put a straw or coffee stirrer into the cake and then put the wires in that.

There is no specifically "food safe" wire that I am aware of. You'll want to put the wire into a straw or even a coffee stir stick. You can "glue" the wire into the straw with melted chocolate or royal icing to ensure that it doesn't slide down and come into contact with the cake. HTH
