Ok, so I love to bake cakes and decorate but every time I try to bake a cake from scratch it turns out very heavy and there is a taste of either flour or baking soda. No matter what I do it still comes out this way, I thought my ingredients were no good so I bought new ones and used them and still heavy and funky tasting. Please any tips will be greatly appreciated.

Could you post the recipe you use so that we can see if you have a little too much/little of any ingredients? You're sifting your dry ingredients together well before mixing, then mixing the batter until it's smooth before baking?
