I usually make indydebis buttercream and I like it.... BUT I found a cake supply store that sells high ratio shortening and I would like to give it a try. I wanted to try Sugarshacks recipe but I only have an old Sunbeam mixmaster (stand mixer) DON'T LAUGH! icon_redface.gif Not sure if I will get good results using it.
Has anyone made it without a KA?
Or has anyone made indydebis buttercream with the high ratio shortening? Does it matter if I just replace reg shortening with the HR?
I need a BC that will hold up well in Florida weather.

Any help would be appreciated!! Thank you.

Indy's recipe works fine with Hi-ratio. It's all I use. I just subbed it 1 for 1 in the recipe.

As far as the brand of mixer, I really think that's not even relevant.

I mentioned the brand of mixer because the sunbeam doesn't have the paddle and it's not as strong. Sugarshack got back to me and said I should check the power of the mixer... it's 275 watts and she said it should be as strong as the KA Artisan, 325 watts (I believe.)
Anyway...I like indydebis recipe and if I can use the HR in it then I'm going to stick to making hers. Maybe the HR will make a difference in smoothing...I here it helps alot.

The mixer is not going to be the problem. I use a little hand-held mixer for everything - - no paddle either. I use Crisco, so I can't tell you whether the high-ratio will make a difference, but your mixer should handle it just fine.
