In a few weeks, my grandparents will celebrate their 60th anniversary! My father and aunt are putting together a party for them and I am to bring a "wedding" cake. No other ideas, colors, flavors or suggestions were made. I know it doesn't need to be all the big....maybe 45 people tops....and this is not a very fancy crowd. I have heard my aunt refer to fondant as "plastic" so I am thinking a buttercream cake. Other than that--I feel like a kid lost in a store and I don't know what to do!
These two love birds live on a farm and own a florist. Very sweet and casual people who didn't have a wedding cake when they got married.
What should I do? I am not the most skilled cake artist in the land--but I do have fun and I want to make a nice cake. I just wanted to see if anyone had some good suggestions out there! Thanks so much for your help!
This is interesting, maybe it can be incorporated into a the cake.

This is interesting too:
60TH ANNIVERSARY FLOWER MEANING
Orchids - Means love, beauty, wisdom, thoughtfulness, refinement, luxury, strength, rare beauty, magnificence beautiful lady, mature charm and long life.
It is also the "Chinese symbol for many children."
My parents are getting there too, maybe I should start thinking about it now.

How about a cake with "love birds" on the top, maybe in a nest, and branches with flowers on the sides? That might kind of tie in the florist and living on a farm. And I think the love bird cakes are so cute
Maybe something like these:

Thank you, everyone!
I really like the idea of the orchids...never made one before so I may have to do some research. The nest is also a good idea--they always have all their "kids" come back for every party and keep different kinds of birds, too.
