So I am getting ready to sponge paint a cake for Saturday. I am using gels mixed with vodka. If I want the colors to be very faint (and obviously using a light touch with the sponge), do I just use a small amount of food coloring and more vodka? I am not looking for pastels, but I want the color to be very faint and subdued.

Thanks,
Annie

Yes, that's what I would do. Mix more vodka or gin with gel colors - then dip sponge in lightly and blot on a paper towel before applying to the icing.

Thanks. I was hoping to just dilute it with more booze. I am using some pretty bright colors (basically all the primaries and secondaries) so I just want them very faint.

Thanks!
