I am planning to do a cake Friday with the Buttercream roses done directly onto the cake. Would it be best to tint the icing red before piping the roses on or I was thinking about using that Wilton color mist. I wanted to do a light spray of pink and then red over that. How do you think that would look? Would you go with just tinting it before hand? I've never used the spray mist before so Im not sure what kind of results it gives.
Thanks for any input!!
Im sure someone else will chime in, but if you are doing the roses right on the cake, I would imagin your would get overstray from the mist that will get on the cake. Assuming you only want the roses red, i would tint the icing.
I would do both. tint the buttercream a background color, then use maybe a slightly darker color to highlight the parts you can hit with the mist. It might be really hard to hit all the cracks and crevices of the roses with just the spray. But the spray will give you a nice depth of color by just hitting the ends.
I just saw this post after posting a photo of a cup cake cake I made today with roses tinted with colour mist. It was my first time using colour mist and I wanted a mixture of colours so went with pearl, pink and purple. Am really happy with the result, I think it's pretty! here is the link http://cakecentral.com/gallery/2264527/giant-cupcake
Forgot to mention that I have previously just tinted the BC when making these roses which is also pretty but this adds a shimmer plus I like the different tints on the roses.
Thanks, Claire! Yours turned out great!! I think I'm going to spare the entire cake pink and then go over I with red but make sure that some pink comes through.
jena, just make sure to let the pink dry before you spray the red...color mist can be a little heavy in color and it's better to spray lightly first, let fully dry, then do it again very lightly. if you try to go heavy it will run.
also, just my opinion...but the RED color mist is sort of drab :p like it's not a bright red but sort of a red with a little brown in it. just spray it onto a towel before you do the whole cake.
good luck!
Claire138: I can't get the link to work and I couldn't find it in your pics. Did something happen? I would love to see it!
Thanks for the advice!!! I will do that for sure!! Sooo I may just have pink roses...
