You need to watch this cartoon video of a bride trying to order her wedding cake.
It reminds me of so many comments made by Cake Central members.

This is making the rounds! Yeah, it's funny. The only thing it's missing is the bride saying the word "simple" over and over, as in "I just want something SIMPLE, you know, SIMPLE".

Simple = cheap

too funny, I just made a cake for a friend, a gift, for her bday. I asked her to pick up and she saud oh, just cut me a piece, Whaaaaaaat? I only spent weeks on the decorations-flowers, gumpaste shoe, home made fondant, whaaaaaaat?
moving along, she picked up absolutely loved it, didn't want to cut it, finally did and 2 days later said, this cake was awesome in flavor "I used to buy my bday cake from so and so, then stopped bcause her cake taste changed and was warned that she didn't bake her cakes anymore and a guy did them for her in his basement in unsanitary conditions, then she said "I used to pay 30 dollars for her cakes." oh vey, dios mio, WTH!, lol so yes I loved this cartoon video, thx for posting.

OK, I just have to add this, I got a phone call last week from someone looking for an emergency wedding cake for 200 for last weekend (4 days lead time). They have a design in mind, it's something SIMPLE, you know, SIMPLE?

I get this emailed to me while they are on the phone and I had to mute the call I was laughing so hard. Your know, SIMPLE?

I asked the budget... $400 because it's so SIMPLE.

I think this oh so smart bride was following the "New Money Saving Advice of 2012" and waiting to the last minute to order a cake because, you know, us bakers will work for free last minute if we don't have another event booked for that weekend and they can get a DEAL!!!!!!

ahahaha!!! TOO FUNNY!!! I am new to the decorating world, and am doing okay. But, people do think we do this for the pure fun of it. I have had some people walk away and that is okay...I'll just keep plugging along! I'm not willing to do it for nothing or even next to nothing.

What can you offer me for free?

A punch in the face.

What's that?

I have to check my briefcase.

I laughed out loud! This is great! Wish potential brides could hear themselves when they repeatedly ask what they can have for free or discount!

So, so funny. You don't have to be a cake decorator to appreciate this..if you've ever been in any kind of sales, this customer shows up all the time!! icon_lol.gif

LOL. I love that video. I've had 2 people this week ask me about wedding cakes and both said. "We just want a small 2 tiered Simple cake to cut and cupcakes! " Luckily I'm just a hobby decorator and am not doing the cakes so I don't have to worry about it. But I always have to laugh to myself when I hear the "Just something Simple".

Brilliant - I loved it. I always knew I was onto a looser when someone started the conversation with 'Could you just knock me up a cake'. Answer - "Nope. Go to the supermarket - that is where you get cakes that are thrown together - not from me!!! " I always knew this expression meant - I will have one of your superb totally handmade creations, never been seen before, and I want to pay about the cost of a donut for it!

dsilvest~~ HYSTERICAL!

I've been hobby baking for 2 years now (started at the Wilton courses at Michaels, lol ). I worked for 35 years as a salesperson and find all the CC posts about customers with unrealistic demands very entertaining.

People wonder why I laugh when they say, "Your cakes are gorgeous! You should sell them and make lots of money!". HA HA HA! Fat chance. I just smile and say that I put in 35 years, this is my hobby and I'm not about to ruin my fun for far, far too little money.

By the way, since I AM a hobby baker, I'm going to put this on my site and give others a chuckle! Thanks for posting this.

I am currently working with a bride that needs to see this. Because of who she is....semi important in some realms, she has been given her catering, most of her honeymoon in Europe and she thinks that I am going to fork over a cake. WRONG! I gave her my last price and I am really hoping that she lets me know that she has found someone else who is going to donate her cake. I am not losing any sleep...!

It also needs to have the customer asking when she can bring her entourage of ten people around for a free cake tasting.
