Hi All! I've pm'd several people asking for advice on a Mr. Potato Head cake, but I haven't gotten any responses. I was hoping somebody out there could help. I have no idea where to start as far as carving and supporting this cake. What size pans? Round, I assume. Doweling? I'm an amateur, but would like to try and make this cake for my daughter's birthday. Any help would REALLY be appreciated. Thank you.
Well I would start with a cake that is round so you don't have as much to carve...Mr Potato head is kind of oval so a round cake would be easier.I have a 8 inch half ball pan so I would bake two of those. In between 2 layers add dowel rods and then a piece of cakeboard ontop and stack the top half of layers or ball. This will hold the weight of the fondant.Carve the shape ,crumbcoat and then cover in fondant or whatever you are using.
