Hi everyone!
I was wondering if someone could kindly help me. I was asked to make a guitar cake for an upcoming 50th birthday for a gentlemen. My question is, how do I make the sides of the guitar look like realistic wood? Do I scratch it up , then paint it? I really don't want it to look like a wine crate really. The cake will be covered in fondant, if that helps.

Thanks!

Hi,

You could score the sides with something then paint or you could make a long panel/strip that looks like wood grain with tan and brown fondant then paint a tad to make it look real OR you could get a wood grain impression mat and paint.

I was just looking at this video yesterday and I think this would work the best for a guitar since you will want a smooth finish not scratchy looking.
