Swiss Meringue Under Fondant?

I know this is a stupid question but can you use swiss meringue buttercream under fondant? I have never used swiss meringue but I would like to try it out and possibly start using it instead of my traditional American buttercream just not sure if it holds up as well?

Just to be clear, yes to swiss meringue buttercream, but unknown and probably no to swiss meringue.
