Where can you buy these plain colored papers to cover the cake boards? I have been using fanci foil, but I'd love to get some colored paper.

People use scrap book paper then cover it with contact paper. I haven't done it yet but can't wait to try. It's a great idea.

I buy rolls of wrapping paper in colors/designs to match cakes. I cover the paper with clear contact paper, BUT I set each cake on a cake board that I then set on the contact paper. The cakes should not come into contact with the plastic contact paper.
I also use fabric occasionally.

These are wrapping paper:

Poohsmomma, WHat do you use to adhear the fabric to the board without it bubbling or leaking thru the fabric and to keep it nice and flat?

Me, too.
I just cut it a bit larger than the board and tape it on the back.

Is it not safe to put the cake directly on the cellophane/clear contact paper? Will it tear while cutting the cake maybe?

It's because the paper and contact paper isn't classified as "food safe" material.
