I am looking for a wonderful Red Velvet doctored mix recipe! This is my first time attempting red velvet. They will be cupcakes. I am making them as a present for my friends birthday. I am seeing a ton of different doctored recipes, some involve white cake mix...marble cake...German chocolate...and then red velvet mix too. What is the best way to go???

I was planning on adding an extra egg, changing the water to buttermilk, adding some chocolate instant pudding, and adding sour cream/mayo to DH Red Velvet box....

Will that work? Any other suggestions or baking times and temp tips????

Thank you! Do you add regular flour or cake flour? I did a recipe similar to this once and I thought it was almost too moist and dense. And that is strange cause I love really dense cake...??? LOL But I am wondering, do you think it would be a little less dense because it is cupcakes instead of a cake?

One more question for anyone reading, how far do you fill your standard cupcake trays?
