Note To Self - Do Not Torte

HaHa. For my daughter's birthday yesterday, I made a 12" flower cake. Since it was so big, I decided to just do one layer.

Well, wanting the practice, I torted it and filled with buttercream, covered with buttercream, and put fondant on it.

It turned out pretty but I'll tell you.....bleck.....frosting overload! Next time I will not torte it if I'm just doing just one layer.

Well, perhaps I'll torte if I'm doing a fruit filling. =)

Just thought I'd pass on the note.

I hear what you are saying. I don't have a sweet tooth therefore buttercream and fondant makes me cringe but I love the torte look. I discovered a thin layer of raspberry jam (or is it Jelly in the US!) and buttercream between layers helped to make it a little more 'interesting'.
