Hello Cakers!

I need tips on how to accomplish piping lattice work on a 12" square cake. I havent done it before and somewhat intimidated. Also - royal icing versus buttercream.

Thanks in advance,

Teresa

Are you going to cover the whole cake or just the corners?
What is the cake ice/covered with?
I'm a b'cream gal. I would not use royal.
Have you made any latice at all before? It's just a series of lines at an angle but you have to be sure it is all the same angle icon_smile.gif
Mark the top of your cake about every inch = depends on how 'open' you want the latice = then mark the bottom the same. I prefere to pipe lattice from the bottom to top so I would start at one mark on the bottom and pipe to one mark over on the top. You can use a ruler to make a light embossed line to follow, which is covered w/the icing line. I like to use tip 44 to make the lines.
Once you have done all of those lines you go back and make lines in the oposit direction for an 'x' look.
