What were the beds made out of....was there a pattern for the headboard/footboard and is it gumpaste...what did you do to make the letters? Pretty much trying from square one to duplicate a bed..love both pics.

The bed is cake... on a 1" styro-foam platform.

The head and footboards I did out of foam board (but you can use a gum paste/fondant mixture just leave enough time for it to dry hard)

the picture I got off the internet... it was just a black and white coloring sheet that I used to make a template out of fondant.

Does this help?

I have a toy story bed in my photos as well. Mine was all cake which gumpaste head and foot boards.

I made mine from an 11x15 cake and put it on a (what felt like) huge drum board that I covered in fondant and made to look like the wood floor of th bedroom. I really should have made this as a 9x13 cake on a smaller board but my nephew insisted that a) there would be 50+ kids and adults and b) they wanted extra cake.

I found the head and foot board templates here on CC under the Templates gallery and just enlarged them until I had the size I wanted and then printed them out I coloured the gumpaste brown and made sure to roll it at least 1/2" thick. I could have also used fondant with tylose but either way I needed it to dry hard. I used an xacto knife and the template to cut them out. Best get this done at least a week before you need it, but I'd do it more than that to ensure it dries hard. Also, may be a good idea to do two sets just in case one breaks. I attached it to the bed with royal icing. And I made the pillows out of rice cereal treats covered in fondant.

I didn't make the characters but had my nephew bring me some of his daughters Toy Story figures which (after washing) I used on the cake.

Let me know if you have other questions.

well that was soooo helpful...I appreciate it...family does not like fondant so cannot cover cake in fondant (to look like floor)...I did want to do the bed and get some small figures to put on cake...also saw the toy box someone made and have to figure that one out as well. I do thank you for your kindness and guidance and will give it my best...Happy Holidays! Pat

They aren't going to eat the flooring... So I would say do it anyway. My headboard was made out of a 50/50 fondant gumpaste blend. I made the packing box out of RKT covered in fondant with mini marshmallow as packing material. The actual cake was 13 X9.
