I am VERY new to cake decorating and am wondering the easiest way to measure the size of decorations that go all around the cake. ie diamonds, triangles, etc so that it comes out even.

I have a cloth(sewing type) measuring tape. I measure the circumference and divide by the width of the decoration.

That's what I do too. Then I make a template on graph paper. If it is diamonds, I make the angle on paper, but the width is still measured and dotted around the cake. I never have a "back" on my cakes.
