For basic tools I couldn't live without the following:
Turntable - I have a cheapie one and it works great.
Bench scraper for smoothing sides
Many many many off set spatulas
Paint brushes just for caking
Fondant cutters - I love the Ateco nested sets - a little pricey but totally worth it
More expensive/advanced items I could not live without
KitchenAid Mixer
Pasta attachment for KitchenAid
Agbay cake leveler
My entire library of SugarShack DVDs - not expensive unless you buy all of them at once
FYI, the new fondant molds from Wilton are awesome and cheap. You can't go wrong with those.
totally agree about the spatulas! I love my mini one. Use it for almost anything.
Agbay- Ive been thinking of asking for one for christmas!
1) Turntable
2) Small, medium & large spatula--For me, I need my small spatula for the top edges of the cake, the medium one for the sides, etc.
3) my 14" serated knife for leveling
4) fondant smoother
5) Kitchen Aid & my paddle attachment on my KA
i absolutely love my mini set of plastic modeling tools! they are my go to set, i have a larger set, but they seem clumsy to work with, too thick to hold and heavy. i cannot live without my mini set!
good, heavyweight turntable
Agbay (I have the Sr ones, but look at the Jr. Agbays)
SPS
Bench scraper
