Hello fellow cakers!
I have tried a few lemon cake recipes and am still on the hunt for a luscious lemony one lol. The boxed mix is so fake tasting! Do you have a tried and true lemon scratch cake recipe you are willing to share? Nothing with lemon cake mix or jello/pudding- thanks!

There is a scratch lemon cake recipe that was just posted on this site. It is still on the home page.

I know that you are really not into doctored lemon recipe....but the one I use always gets really good reviews. Try it out and see what you think. I use lorann lemon emulsion and also a bit of princess bouquet flavoring from Lorann is DELISH!

I have made a lemon version of the Chocolate Depression cake which was good sub the cocoa for extra flour, add the rind of a lemon and I used 3/4 of the water and the rest lemon juice. Depending on how lemony you want it you could probably do half and half lemon/water (I think I will try that next time).
I filled it with lemon curd and it was really good!

I also found this recipe and want to try it but havent got to yet

If you have a good scratch vanilla cake recipe do the following. Measure the sugar for your recipe the night before and add the zest of two lemons to it. Seal the zest and sugar mixture in a sealed bag or container. The next day squeeze the lemons and use the juice WITH the pulp to replace an equal amount of the liquid in your recipe. Proceed with your recipe as usual. I usually leave out the vanilla or you could replace the vanilla with a good quality lemon extract though I've never found it to be necessary. The resulting cake is very moist and intensely lemon flavored. I do this for orange cake as well.

I use the WASC recipe using white cake mix and then adding 2T of grated lemon peel and substituting lemon juice for half the water and couple of drops of yellow food coloring. Do the same thing with Key Lime and it's killer.

RLB has Woody's Lemon cake. It's in her second book, but she has posted it on the internet. You can google it. It is a white chocolate base and an excellent cake for any flavor. This has been a staple in my family before I started the bakery. I add a thin layer of raspberry jam in the middle. The frosting is curd/IMBC.
