Wow, I can see why you're stumped! I would imagine there will be quite a few in your same boat.
My first thought would be 3 tier; square; with 11 on each tier(front & back) in the bottom corner (alternating corners each tier) Thick ribbon and a few flowers. The 11 would be more of two parallel lines about 2 inches tall. Then on the sides I would turn them horizontal & place them in the top corners alternating once again.
I imagine it to be a clean lined modern looking cake, but it may be something that should stay in my imagination. That was first thought. I'll keep thinking.
Good luck, please post your final production. Would love to see!!

How about making two big number one. There is a "Number One Shaped Cake" on this blog which is huge and nice.

Why not do cakes to 'spell' out

So, 6 number one cakes and two small rectangles (or rounds for full stops if you prefer 11.11.11)

You could have a huge cake board made up or put each one on its own board and just put them all right up next to each other.

If you make each number from a 9" square, you'll have enough cake.

I use this template to make a number 1 from a square cake and there's almost no waste.

thanks guys! But unfortunately, if it is to be numbers they are to be 3d! :O

and they want something original. Its a black tie event, so not sure if Spinal Tap is the way to go, although my hubbie loves the idea!

I am thinking of doing 11 cakes with 11 flavours and 11 equations equalling 11. if that all makes sense. but really stumped. I have until monday which is when I have to give my design brief over.

11 small cakes - 6 in the circle forming the bottom 'tier', 4 for the second 'tier' and one on the top (+ 11 topper?). You can write the flavour of every cake on the side (or put 11s or anything else). Just an idea, it's quite difficult to think about something out of the box for a black tie event. Hope you will post the picture!

How about a 3 layer topsy-turvy cake? first layer you can pipe the word eleven in different languages, second layer maybe some pipped 11s in different fonts, different sizes. third layer 6 vertical stripes going around the cake 11-11-11, and an 11 topper or a bunch of stars on wires with 11s on them or 6 ones and stars on wires to make them look like they're fanning over the cake. Maybe with a pearl border on each tier or elevens on their side, kind of like this = = = = = =

thanks guys you are getting the creative juices flowing, although I am nervous of wonky cakes. I am a novice with wonky cakes! but i am going to look for a good tutorial.

I like your original idea, and also like almy-al's idea too.
I'll throw my 2 cents worth - you could have which ever shape cake you like, and make the 11, doing different things around the cake. Like a number 11 sitting on the edge of the cake, a number 11 dressed in formal gear (ie, 1 could have a bow tie on him and the other number 1 with a dress on her), or two number one's dancing with each other??

Or another one I've just thought of is a cake in the shape of a watch face, with the date and time on it, with a bit of bling - so it's more of a ladies watch

...sorry just thinking aloud icon_lol.gif

since it's black tie I would maybe do something like 11 bows ties, 11 diamonds, 11 pearls, 11 champagne glass, etc.

Ask them what other decor they are using. Blake Tie event....is it a fundraiser? Corporate event? Maybe that info would help you fill in the pieces.
