My son has requested this cake for his birthday next month. I'm comfortable with it all except how to suspend "Mr. Ray" above the cake and how to form him. I've thought of using rice krispy to form him, but am affraid the "wings" will not stay out and will droop. Should I use some sort of dowel bracing through the cake to hold him up there? Thank you for any advice!

That's a really cute cake. It looks like Mr. Ray is "suspended" on a dowel that has been covered in RKTs between the top of the cake and the bottom of the ray for extra support. I think I would make Mr. Ray out of pastillage, which is sort of like gumpaste but dries harder and faster than gumpaste. There are recipes for it on this site. Good luck!
