Hi,
I wanted to make a Grad Cap for the top of a 6 inch round cake. Not quite sure how to go about the base of the grad cap. The square top seems easy enough. I have read and read many different ways of doing it and now seem even more lost. Any suggestions would be great. I don't have a mini ball pan mold and not sure if I should mold it into a bowl or ?

Thanks so much.

I just used rice krispy treats and shaped them. you can use a bowl too...as far as the top...make sure you give yourself plenty of drying time if your using gumpaste. For me, I just used cardboard and covered that in black fondant. easier than drying to get black gumpaste IMO.
good luck.

I just made a graduation cap cake. You can see it in my pictures. I just stuffed Rice Krispie Treats into a small bowl (cut the top so the square will lay flat on top of it), covered it with royal icing and let dry (to cover the bumps) then covered in black fondant. For the top, I made a square of black gum paste and just let it dry for a week and a half (flipping it over every couple days so the other side will dry too). Attach the square to the RKT base with royal. Then I made the tasels with gum paste and a food-safe clay extruder. Good luck!
